James Stanek, Helped his home state of New York in the 9/11 clean-up effort as a volunteer firefighter and iron worker. The terrorist attacks on that day inspired Jim to enlist in the U.S. Army. In 2003, he deployed with the 82nd Airborne Division, and in 2004, he deployed again -- this time with F CO 51st LRSC. In 2008, he deployed a third time -- with the Big Red One, or the 1st Infantry Division, the oldest division in the Army. However, he returned home early with injuries. The Army began the process of medically retiring Jim for a multitude of injuries and chronic, severe PTSD and traumatic brain injury.  In 2010, he and  Lindsey a veterinary assistant, moved to Rio Rancho, N.M., were married, and founded Paws and Stripes. He now serves as a spokesman for the program, speaking to many groups about the benefits of service dogs for veterans with injuries like his, service dog etiquette for businesses, and what Paws and Stripes is doing in the community.  (http://www.pawsandstripes.org)
