Jay Morales and Hugh Crooks Both Jay and Hugh are longtime members of American Legion Post 8, which was the first veterans service organization to occupy Patriotic Hall when it was opened in 1925. It has since been renamed Bob Hope Patriotic Hall. Jay is a Marine who served three tours of combat duty in Vietnam. He has been a member of the American Legion for 40 years now, and the Adjutant of Post 8 for many years. He was appointed by the late LA County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn to serve as chairman of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee (know renamed the Veterans Affairs Commission), and served in that capacity for some eight years. He has been involved in the Task Force to preserve Patriotic Hall for many years. also:Hugh Crooks, is the immediate past Commander of the statewide American Legion Department of California, for the 2011-2012 term. " Crooks, like Morales a longtime member and officer of Legion Post 8, introduced a resolution at the recent California Department Executive Committee meeting on August 12, putting entire 100,000-member California Legion behind the effort to preserve the Bob Hope Patriotic Hall as a Veterans Memorial Building, as originally intended, and not another County general services building in which veterans are now to be relegated to the basement."
