    Many American Legion, VFW, Amvets, and other veterans organizations will hold Patriot Day observances. Call your local Post and join in the observance. While most newspapers will carry listings of observances, many events which deserve wide support may not get the wide media coverage they deserve. Therefore, a few are noted:

    --Ventura County:
    “Ride To The Flags – In Memoriam,” Saturday, 9-11, sponsored by the Gary Siniese Charitable Foundation, includes a two-hour motorcycle ride culminating with a solemn tribute to the 2,997 victims of 9-11, followed by a celebration of freedom at the Naval Base Ventura County-Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station.
    Musical Guest: Glen Campbell. All proceeds to Snowball Express, Semper Fi Fund, and Stephwn Siller FDNY Childrens Foundation. More information: www.RideToTheFlags.com.

    --L.A. County:
    “Remembering September 11th –‘The Ride” & Ceremony 2010”- motorcycle ride from Cooks Corner down Laguna Canyon to PCH ending in Long Beach. Remembering “the 343 FDNY Firemen, 61 Police Officers and all those who tragically lost their lives” on 9-11-2001. (343 crosses are on display Sept. 7 thru 11th.)     Also, among other observances in L.A., Duane “Bucky” Buckley, Air Force veteran, and other members of American Legion Post 826 and other patriots, will stage their “9th Annual 9-11 Candlelight Service, at the corner of Victory and Topanga Canyon Blvd., starting at 7p.m. More information: 818-692-0701

    --Riverside County:
    10 a.m. Banning: The Annual Stage Coach Days parade through downtown falls on Patriot Day and its theme is “God Bless The USA.” Eight veterans are among the Grand Marshalls, including Pearl Harbor survivor Navy veteran S.J. Hemker, an honored, and beloved, member of American Legion San Gorgonio Pass Post 848. The First Marine Division Corps Band will lead the parade. The Pass Area Supporting Soldiers citizen organization (“PASS”), which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and labored to renovate the Banning Armory while troops were deployed to Iraq, will be participating.     12:00 p.m., Beaumont: Annual Patriot Day ceremonies will be held at the Veterans Memorial at Beaumont City Hall, with VFW, American Legion, and other veterans and citizens participating. More information: City of Beaumont website.

    2:00 p.m., Riverside: Moms of Military – Gold Star Families of the Inland Empire Prayer and Support Group, will stage their 6th Annual “Remember Our Heroes” Patriot Day tribute and celebration of freedom,2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Band Shelter of Fairmount Park. American Legion Post 79 will provide the food booth. VFW members will post the colors., supporting these Gold Star mothers and supporters.     3:00 p.m., Temecula: Patriot Day ceremonies will be held at the “Duck Pond,” where the city’s veterans memorial, called “Letters Home,” is located. Veterans, the Boy Scouts, will participate in ceremonies in which candles will be lit and placed in the pond as a memorial to those who died on 9-11. More information: www.CityOfTemecula.org.

    Orange County:
    7:00 p.m., Placentia: American Legion Family of Placentia 9-11 Remembrance, honoring the victims of 9-11, put on by the American Legion Family of Legion, Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion (SAL), at the American Legion Post 277. More information: 714-996-2190.

    These are only a few of the many observances of Patriot Day. Find one near you, pay your respects to those who died, and celebrate our American freedom that the murderous terrorists of 9-11 did not, and will not, destroy.
