Veterans Day is a public holiday that is dedicated to honoring anyone who has served in the United States military. The holiday began as a day to remember the end of World War I and was declared a holiday by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Colonel James C. Harding (USAF RET) national spokesman for Veteran Defenders of America. He entered the Air Force in 1956 His military career covered a variety of flying assignments as well as command positions. He served as squadron commander for a 400 person unit at Lackland AFB and as an A-1 combat squadron commander in Southeast Asia. Colonel Harding was shot down by a SA-7 Surface-To-Air Missile (SAM) while directing a rescue mission in Vietnam in 1972. United States Army helicopters rescued him after he successfully evaded North Vietnamese troops. While on the ground, Colonel Harding used his survival radio to direct the rescue of his wingman, who had also been shot down on the same rescue mission. Comrades, Colleagues, and Patriots:

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th Month of 1918, the guns went silent as the Armistice was announced in World War I. That war was then the most devastating in history for casualties and carnage. From its beginning in July, 1914, to the Armistice on November 11, 1918, an estimated 38-million combatants and civilians died. Approximately 10,000,000 military died on both sides: approximately 4.5-million of them allied combatants, and approximately 5.5-million of the defeated enemy.

Then-President Woodrow Wilson, who had won re-election on a campaign slogan of "He Kept Us Out Of War," was sworn in for a second term in March, 2018. The following month, April, 1918, Wilsontook the U.S. into that war. Approximately 117,000 American military would die fighting in WWI in what was called the "War To Save Democracy" and the "War To End All Wars." It didn't. But, what is now beyond question, without the service and sacrifice of the American veterans in WWI, that war would have been lost, and with it freedom.

Armistice Day was first observed to honor those WWI Veterans. It later evolved into Veterans Day, honoring on November 11 all Americans who served on active military duty, some 1.4-million of whom have given their lives in defense of American freedom in all the wars.

On Veterans Day 2015, when Americans freedom is again imperiled -- now by Islamic jihadist terrorists determined to impose a worldwide totalitarian caliphate under Sharia Law rather than Constitutional law, a modern menace no less totalitarian or evil than was Hitler's Nazism in World War II, Americans troops are once again called to put their lives and limbs at risk in defense of freedom.

Americans not in service are called upon to remember and honor on Veterans Day all American veterans who have served when our country called them to defense of our freedom.

All across America, on November 11, at 11 a.m., as on the first Armistice Day, ceremonies, observances, parades, are held in communities, at American Legion or VFW Posts, at Veterans Ceremonies, at which Americans can participate in honoring and remembering those who have served and by that service safeguarded the freedom of all Americans.

In that regard, among so many opportunities to participate, allow me to note but a few Veterans Day matters for your consideration:

RIVERSIDE NATIONAL CEMETERY VETERANS DAY CEREMONIES

Riverside National Cemetery across from March Air Force Base in Riverside County, California, is the home of the National Medal Of Honor Memorial and the National POW/MIA Memorial. It draws thousands to ceremonies, commencing with patriotic band music. It is open to all.

A CALL FOR 21-SECONDS OF SILENCE MONTHLY TO HONOR VETERANS

Ceremonies at RNC include this year a call by one of the speakers for Americans to remember and honor veterans not just on two days a year -- Veterans Day and Memorial Day -- but by 21-second moments of silence on the 21st day of each month.

That speaker is Ray Trosper, a former Marine, American Legion activist in Riverside Post 79, and a Patriot Guard Rider, who originated the "21-Second Remembrance" resolution which was adopted firs by American Legion District 21, then the Department of California Convention, and now by the California Legislature, which has enacted it into law.

Talk Show Host and Navy Veteran Chuck Wilder's annual Veterans Day Show -- heard online nationally on CRNTalk.com (12-2 p.m. PST) -- includes today in the first hour Colonel James CA Harding (USAF, ret.), national spokesman for Veteran Defenders of America. Col. Harding, who was shot down in Vietnam, evaded communist troops, was rescued by "dust off" Army medial evacuation helicopters. Harding and used to his survival radio to direct the rescue also of his wingman. Harding as on of the most decorated veterans.

Also guesting on Veterans Day is former U.S. Navy Seal Chris Heben, founder of INVICTUS Group. Heben has written an autobiography, "Undaunted," a hit single, "American Patriot" (available on I-Tunes), and, among other things, stars in "Ivory Wars," and the Animal Planet show.

In the second hour, former Marine Ray Trosper will be discussing his "21-Second Remembrance" resolution, as well as organizations developing by or for veterans since the Islamic Jihadist attack on America on Sept. 1, 2001. I will also be part of that segment.

CAPT. JOSEPH R. JOHN: VETERANS DAY CALL TO ACTION RE VA FAILURES

Capt. Joseph R. John (USN, ret.), founder and CEO of Combat Veterans For Congress has written a powerful call for action to aid veterans to receive effective and timely VA medical care:"Veterans Day: Cong. Kerry Bentivolio Seeks Justice for 300,000 Veterans Who Died While Waiting For Medical Care From The VA."

This powerfully written column by Capt. John on the effort for vets by Cong. DEFENSE OF VETERANS MEMORIAL PROJECT: MT. SOLEDAD NATIONAL MEMORIAL CROSS SAVED: An article on what appears to the final victory to save the Mt. Soledad National Memorial "as it is, where it is," with the Cross there honoring veterans intact, after 26-years to litigation to destroy the cross by the ACLU, which has become the Taliban of American Liberal Secularism.

THE $860,000 SANGER FIASCO: An article detailing complaints, aimed at protecting the integrity of the American Legion Dept. of California, filed against Janet Wilson, Past Commander 2014-15, and her Judge Advocate, John Bart, alleging breach of fiduciary duty, neglect of duty, dishonesty, conduct unbecoming a member of The American Legion calling for trial under the Department's Trial, pertaining to their actions to induce the Department Executive Committee to accept a contract -- sight unseen -- at its meeting on March 14, 2015, to pay $860,000 for an abandoned bank in Sanger, CA,in order to move the Department Headquarters there from the historic Veterans War Memorial Building in San Francisco, which had provided 4,500 feet of office space for $500 monthly donation. No trial date has been set as the complaints have not been processed by the Department hierarchy at this time.

IN FLANDERS FIELD

As the roots of Veterans Day are in Armistice Day and World War I, so is what is perhaps the most moving of all war poems, "In Flanders Field." While it was written by Dr. and Major John McRae, a Canadian military surgeon who wrote it while still in battle in Ypres, scene of horror, and slaughter, in which his friend was filled.

I append In Flanders Fields below and attach it as a file, as a final fitting tribute to all who served and sacrificed in WWI, and all the veterans who have served, which service and sacrifice should never be forgotten.
